Act I: Scene I - Kansas Prairie Farm

'The scene opens on a farm in Kansas, where Dorothy lives with her Aunt Em and Uncle Henry. Suddenly, a cyclone strikes, lifting the farmhouse and its occupants into the air.'

(Dorothy) Oh no! What's happening?

(Aunt Em) It's a tornado!

(Uncle Henry) Grab onto something!

'The scene shifts to a strange-looking girl, Cynthia, who appears on stage.'

(Cynthia) (to Dorothy) If you are a member of the Sorceress' Union, show your card.

(Dorothy) I haven't one. She hated love and happiness, and while she lived would not permit you to know them. Her cruel spells and wicked enchantments have caused you endless misery.

(Witch of the North) Then you should thank her on your knees.

'Cynthia pulls out a card from her pocket and holds it up.'

(Cynthia) Ah ha! I've got my union card!

'The scene shifts to the Land of Oz, where Dorothy meets the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Cowardly Lion. They journey together towards the Emerald City, facing various obstacles along the way.'

(Scarecrow) If we follow this road, it should lead us to the Emerald City.

(Tin Man) But what if the Wicked Witch of the West is waiting for us?

(Cowardly Lion) We'll just have to be brave and face our fears!

'They approach a river, where they meet a banker who has been taking swimming lessons.'

(Banker) Swimming lessons from a banker? Ah yes, I've taught her how to float a loan.

(Dorothy) That's no way to treat a perfect lady lunatic.

(Cynthia) But I will not sink. I am not dangerous.

'The scene shifts back to the farmhouse in Kansas, where the storm has subsided.'

(Reuben) Somebody under arrest!

'The chorus of Munchkins appears on stage, singing and dancing.'

Munchkin Chorus: (singing) We're off to see the Wizard, we hear he is wonderful...

(The scene ends with Dorothy and her new friends standing together, ready for their journey to the Emerald City.)
